Backwell Tennis Club’s annual championships weekend took place on 10th and 11th September. It was a great opportunity for club and community to come together at a difficult time, with the recent passing of The Queen marked by a minute’s silence on both days.
The weather across the weekend was fantastic, and so was the quality of the tennis. 27 finals were held over the two days in what is one the region’s largest tennis tournaments. With matches from the under 8s to the over 60s there was plenty of tennis to watch, along with a free BBQ and refreshments.

Youth overcame experience with the title won by teenage sensation and defending champion, Joe Wild, who defeated the 2018 winner Stuart Beaver in straight sets, with a display of ferocious hitting.
